If a preservative blend you're using has a trade name like a supplier's proprietary system name, always trace it back to its actual INCI components, since one of these releasers is very often hiding inside a blend sold under a friendlier brand name.
Why the free formaldehyde threshold matters separately
Here's the part that catches formulators off guard: it isn't only about how much of the releaser itself you use. Once a releaser breaks down in your finished product, it generates actual free formaldehyde, and the concentration of that free formaldehyde in the finished product is what determines whether a warning statement is required on the label, separate from the restriction on the releaser ingredient itself.
This means two products using the same releaser at the same percentage can end up needing different label treatment depending on how much free formaldehyde actually forms, which depends on your formula's pH, water content, storage conditions, and how the releaser interacts with everything else in the mix.
