It is one of the most common synthetic esters in cosmetic formulation, and it earns its place mostly through texture, not through any active skin benefit.
What it is and where it comes from
Isopropyl myristate is the ester formed from isopropyl alcohol and myristic acid. Its INCI name is simply Isopropyl Myristate, and its CAS number is 110-27-0. Chemically it behaves like an oil but with a much lower viscosity than a typical carrier oil, which is exactly why formulators reach for it.

- Lotions and creams, where it improves spreadability without adding heaviness

Why it spreads the way it does

"Non-comedogenic" claims on packaging are a common area of scrutiny, and including a moderately comedogenic ester while making that claim is the kind of inconsistency that erodes trust fast, even though it is not a compliance violation in the regulatory sense.
